President’s Message

Dear NWN Friends,

I am excited about being the President of this wonderful club during the coming year.  I joined NWN 13 years ago because my mother, Mary Lou, told me about all the friends she was making and the fun she was having.  Little did I know how much NWN would enrich my life.  Most importantly, I have seen what a gift it is to have such great social connections and friendships. This is especially true when we are newly arrived in Austin or as we transition from lives that focused on work and child-rearing to the wonderful next phase when we are able to spend more time pursuing our own interests and enjoying our freedoms.

It has taken a lot of amazing women to make this group a success for almost 40 years.  It definitely “takes a village”.  Thanks to all who have gone before us and those who are currently leading our club.  I especially want to thank our newer members who have taken up positions of responsibility.  Becca F. is our new Treasurer.  Renee D. is taking over the Database/Directory job.  Laura F. was recently appointed as our Member at Large.  Lisette L. and Pat W. have become the new co-chairs

of Garden Group.  Margie S. is doing a bang-up job growing the Mah Jongg interest group.  Janet T. has become chair of Live Theater.  Some long-time members have taken on new responsibilities.  Leonor L. and Janet S. will co-chair Bridge, a group that is attracting new members.  Kathy R. will carry on the tradition of  great Supper Club parties.  Also, thanks to all the members who have signed on to be Greeters and Luncheon Buddies.  I can’t leave out those who make critical, but not officially recognized contributions: Christine C. who provides the centerpieces for our Luncheon tables;  Marcia S. and Deborah H. who post about our club on NextDoor; Members who prepare our Luncheon desserts; Christa G. and her helpers who plate and serve them; and all those who provide transportation to NWN events for friends who are unable to drive.  My apologies if I have left anyone out.  But, if I have, you know how much you are appreciated.

As we begin our new year, remember that “EACH ONE, BRING ONE” will ensure that our club will thrive for another “40”.  Here’s to growing our membership, continuing friendships and enjoying many future good times.

                                                             Yours in fun and friendship,

Marianna F.
